The Sony Ericsson Xperia Play, the first PlayStation Certified smartphone, is real and it's coming next month.  Unveiled yesterday, at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, the Xperia Play will arrive at retailers in the United States in March on Verizon's nationwide network.

Along with the device itself, Sony Ericsson also released the first details of the device's software lineup, which will comprise of a suite of PlayStation classics, as well as Android-based games from over 20 publishing partners.

While a full software lineup was not confirmed, Sony Ericsson did reveal that over 50 games are being developed for the device, including games from franchises like Assassin's Creed, Guitar Hero, Battlefield, and Dead Space. The company also announced that the device will support the first multiplayer version of FIFA 10 for smartphones.

The device's slide-out 4-inch touchscreen display and full PlayStation-style control system, including shoulder buttons, action buttons, dual analogs, and a d-pad, will allow players to play any game, regardless of whether it is a PlayStation classic or Android-based title, with a traditional control scheme.
